Disney+ ‘High School Musical’ Series Gets Renewed for Season 2

Disney+ High School Musical television series is renewed for a second season. The announcement about the High School Musical series renewal comes weeks before the show even becomes available to viewers. The official name of the show, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, is set to premiere on November 12th for its season 1 debut, the same day that the streaming service, Disney+, comes online. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Disney allowed for fans to preview the first full episode of the series back on October 8th, airing on some of Disney’s on-air platforms like a ABC, Disney Channel, and Freeform.

The premise of the series is self-referential in and of itself. Which is set to take place thirteen years after the original movie and follows the students who attend East High School. They have a plan to put on a theatre adapted performance of the High School Musical movies as a tribute to the movies being filmed at their school. Over the span of 10 episodes, the storyline focuses itself around the musical theatre students, Ricki (Joshua Bassett), Nini (Olivia Rodrigo), Gina (Sofia Wylie), E.J. (Matt Cornett), Kourtney (Dara Renee), Ashlyn (Julia Lester), Carlos (Frankie Rodriguez) and Big Red (Larry Saperstein). As they go through the obstacles that happen on stage to prepare for opening night. The show also dives deep into their juicy off-stage school lives and relationships. The musical theatre performance is set to mimic the 2006 film that jump started many careers including Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Tisdal to just name a few. Although, there has been no word on if any will be guest appearing or affiliating with the spin-off. The show is also planning to come out with new versions of the film’s music. It’s rumored the music will actually be incorporated into the series with a new song to be debuted every week.

New episodes of the series will debut every Friday. They start on Friday, November 15th. The production for season 2 is set for some time in the early part of the 2020 year and will include another 10 episodes for its second season. The show will be one of the Disney Original Series that will be shown on the streaming services platform along with other Original Series shows including The Mandalorian, The World According to Jeff Goldblum, Marvel’s Hero Project and many more. The Disney+ platform will cost consumers $6.99 a month for the ad free service accumulating to roughly $69.99 a year.
