The anticipated Marvel series, Secret Invasion, featuring Samuel L. Jackson (The Banker, Pulp Fiction) and Ben Mendelsohn (The Outsider, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), has dropped a new trailer tonight. The teaser was released during the Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers baseball game on ESPN.
The superhero series, which is based on the 2008-2009 comic book of the same name, will follow Jackson’s Nick Fury as he investigates “a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years,” via Disney+. Mendelsohn will star as the Skrull Talos. The actors will be reprising their roles from the 2019 movie Captain Marvel.
In the video, Talos speaks offscreen, seemingly antagonizing Fury. He says, “Since you’ve been gone… Things have gotten much worse.”
Later, Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Lost Daughter) appears as Special Agent Sonya Falsworth, an “old friend” of Fury’s. She tells him, “You’re in no shape for this fight that lies before us,” presumably eluding to a big battle between Fury and Talos.
Fury is seen telling Don Cheadle (Crash, The Guard), who is reprising his role as James Rhodes, “This war is one I have to fight. Alone.” In response, Rhodes tells him, “You are the most wanted man on the planet.”
Emilia Clarke’s (Game of Thrones, Me Before You) character, G’iah, is featured in the trailer. She says to Fury, “You don’t know what they have planned for you.”
Other notable cast members who are included in the teaser are Cobie Smulders (Safe Heaven, The Avengers) as Mariah Hill; Kingsley Ben-Adir (The OA, High Fidelity) as Gravik, a rebel Skrull leader; Martin Freeman (Black Panther, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) as Everett K. Ross; and Killian Scott (Calvary, ‘71) as Fiz.
The trailer ends with a long-distance shot of Fury. He says, “One last fight.”
The six-episode series will air on June 21st, only on Disney+.
