According to Comic Book, Disney+ has revealed new information regarding a character on the upcoming Marvel series Secret Invasion. Four-time Emmy nominee Emilia Clarke, best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones, will be portraying G’iah. The character was previously seen in the 2019 film Captain Marvel, as a young girl alongside her father, Talos, played by Emmy winner Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Animal Kingdom). The two were seen boarding a Skrull spaceship outside of Earth. Oscar nominee and protagonist of the series Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, The Hateful Eight) broke the news: “Remember when Ben was there with his wife and daughter? She’s the little Skrull girl grown up. She’s his daughter.”
Clarke herself commented on the role — “It’s hardened her for sure. There’s a kind of punk feeling that you get from this girl. She’s a refugee kid who’s had Talos for a dad, you know what I mean? Maybe the fact that we didn’t know he had a kid up until this point tells you everything you need to know about their relationship.”
G’iah also seems to have a dislike for humans, especially Jackson’s Nick Fury. Clarke adds, “These people promised a lot of stuff a long time ago, and not a lot has happened. So understandably, a certain amount of resentment has been built. There’s a lot of emotions that live within her, and there’s a lot of confrontational aspects to her character that have come from circumstance. You understand why she has the feelings that she does.”
Game of Thrones star @EmiliaClarke is new to @Marvel, but her #SecretInvasion character has been seen before. “There’s a kind of punk feeling that you get from this girl.” (Spoiler warning)
