While several Marvel Cinematic Universe productions have been delayed this year, Disney has recently confirmed that at least one is still on schedule, as Gamespot reported today. WandaVision, one of the first Disney+ shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is set to be released by the end of the year, as Disney+ showed in a video posted on their official Twitter.
WandaVision, along with several other Marvel Cinematic Universe shows, was revealed last summer during Marvel’s Comic-Con Panel. However, as with many film and television productions this year, WandaVision stopped filming back in March due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, the series was meant to resume production in July. Not much has been revealed since then in regards to show. Similarly, fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe Disney+ show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was also meant to be released this year, but was removed from Disney+’s schedule with no further updates.
While there have been shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before, Disney+ will release shows starring characters that debuted in the films as the leads (as opposed to short cameos). WandaVision will focus on the Scarlet Witch, real name Wanda Maximoff (played by Elizabeth Olsen, Godzilla) and the Vision (Paul Bettany, Solo: A Star Wars Story) following the events of Avengers: Endgame. Disney has not revealed much about WandaVision‘s plot. It has been confirmed that the series will tie-in directly to the upcoming Marvel film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In addition, Kat Dennings (2 Broke Girls) and Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat) will reprise their roles as Darcy from the Thor films and Jimmy Woo from the Ant-Man films, respectively. Kathryn Hahn (Central Park) and Teyonah Parris (Mad Men) will also star.
Disney has not revealed a specific release date for WandaVision aside from late 2020. WandaVision will be one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe shows to hit Disney+, including Loki, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Moon Knight. The entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is available to stream on Disney+. Disney released a teaser for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe shows, including WandaVision, during this year’s Super Bowl, which you can watch below.
