The god of mischief is back. According to Deadline, Disney+ just announced when season two of the popular Marvel show Loki will launch. During the Disney Upfront presentation, Kevin Feige (What If..?, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law), the Marvel Studios chief, revealed that the new season of Loki will drop on October 6. During the presentation, Feige also showed first-look footage of the new season.
According to Deadline, the new episodes will air weekly. The first season of Loki came out in 2021 and was one of the first canon Marvel series. During the Disney Upfront, the release date for the new Marvel show, Echo, a spinoff of the Hawkeye series, was also announced. Unlike the previous Marvel series, Echo will release all its episodes on November 29.
Loki follows the god of mischief after he steals the Tesseract from the Avengers during the time heist in Avengers: Endgame. His actions attract the attention of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) who arrest him and take the Tesseract from him. It is after he is dragged to the TVA that Loki comes to realize that there is more going on around the universe than he was aware of. The TVA controls the sacred timeline and makes sure that everything happens as it was foreseen. Loki is then asked to collaborate with the TVA to capture one of his rouge variants and prevent the destruction of the sacred timeline.
The show stars Tom Hiddleston (The Essex Serpent, Kong: Skull Island) as Loki; Owen Wilson (Paint, Secret Headquarters) as Mobius; Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beauty and the Beast, Surface) as Ravonna Renslayer; Sophia Di Martino (The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, Flowers) as Sylvie; Wunmi Mosaku (We Own This City, Call Jane) as Hunter B-15; Jonathan Majors (Lovecraft Country, Creed III) as He Who Remains; and Richard E. Grant (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Persuasion) as Classic Loki.
Joining the cast for season two are Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom), Rafael Casal (Blindspotting, The Good Lord Bird), and Kate Dickie (Game of Thrones, Matriarch) in mysterious roles. Marvel has not released any details regarding their characters.
Justin Benson (Moon Knight, Something in the Dirt) and Aaron Moorhead (Archive 81, The Twilight Zone) serve as directors and executive producers for season two. Eric Martin (Heels, The Other Mother) serves as the head writer and also executive produces alongside Hiddleston and Michael Waldron (Rick and Morty, Good Game).
Season two of Loki will premiere on October 6 on Disney+. The first season of the show is available on Disney+. The Thor movies and the Avengers movies are also available on Disney+.
