Simien received critical acclaim for his 2014 film Dear White People and has since gone on to direct the 2020 film Bad Hair, as well as adapted the 2014 film into an on-going television series for Netflix. His involvement with Lando will mark his second foray into television. Simien is credited as the creator of the upcoming Disney+ series.
Despite the announcement, the presentation did not include whether or not Billy Dee Williams, who portrayed Lando in the original trilogy, or Donald Glover (Atlanta, Community), who portrayed the character in Solo: A Star Wars Story, will reprise their role as the Star Wars space smuggler. Additionally, it is unknown when this series is expected to premiere for Disney+.
