The upcoming television installment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Secret Invasion, is currently in the process of discussing the casting of actress and Academy Award winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite, Broadchurch) for the Disney+ original, according to Deadline. Secret Invasion will consist of six episodes, similar to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and carries the expected production start in April 2021. The series is an adaptation of a Marvel comic book series under the same name and will be overseen by head writer Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot).
Although it has not been commented on by Marvel or Disney+, Colman is still within the talking stage before a potential casting announcement. Colman is primarily known for her recent film success such as her Oscar-winning performance as Queen Anne in The Favourite and Anne in 2020’s The Father in addition to a smaller role in 2007’s Hot Fuzz. Colman also possesses a lengthy television filmography with a lead role on Peep Show as Sophie Chapman, as well as her lead role as DS Ellie Miller in Broadchurch, Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix’s The Crown, and as Godmother on Amazon’s Fleabag.
Secret Invasion will center on a group of Skrulls, an alien species in Marvel Comics, that has attempted and successfully gained entry into daily life and society on Earth. Currently, Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) is fixed to reprise his role as Nick Fury as the series’ main character in addition to the return of Ben Mendelsohn’s (Bloodline, Ready Player One) Talos, a fellow shapeshifting Skrull, since his appearances in Spider-Man: Far From Home and Captain Marvel. On top of Jackson and Mendelsohn, the series has previously announced that the villain would be portrayed by Kingsley Ben-Adir (One Night in Miami, The OA).
Due to the lack of an official confirmation of her casting, it is unknown what role Colman is being discussed for on Secret Invasion. Additionally, it is unknown when this series is expected to premiere for Disney+.
