Another collaboration between Disney+ and Marvel Studios was further elaborated on during the 2020 Disney Investors Day Presentation. The upcoming series Ms. Marvel revealed a first-look video of newcomer Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel as well as some Marvel executives providing some context behind the series’ creation and casting, according to Marvel.com.
Ms. Marvel centers on the teenager Kamala Khan who unexpectedly acquires superpowers. The series is set in Jersey City and on Khan’s life as a Pakistani-American teenager dealing with her double life as a superhero. Khan is portrayed by Vellani. Additionally, the cast includes the likes of Saagar Shaikh (Unfair & Ugly), Rish Shah (Years and Years), Mohan Kapur (Gully Boy), Yasmeen Fletcher (Let Us In), Matt Lintz (The Walking Dead), Aramis Knight (Into the Badlands), Azher Usman (Mooz-lum), Travina Springer (The Mule), Laith Nakli (Ramy), and Nimra Bucha (Churails).
Furthermore, the superhero and comic book series is slated to premiere on Disney+ in the late window of 2021. The series’ episodes will be directed by Bilall Fallah (Black, Bad Boys for Life), Meera Menon (Farah Goes Bang), Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Saving Face), and Adil El Arbi (Black, Bad Boys for Life).
Vellani was also announced at the Disney Presentation to appear in the upcoming MCU film Captain Marvel 2 alongside Brie Larson (Room) and Teyonah Parris (Dear White People, Mad Men).
