Disney+ is getting an all-new mystery drama series. A well-known webtoon artist named Kang Full (Hello, Schoolgirl, Love Never Ends) will have one of his webtoon series adapted into its very own series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series is entitled Light Shop.
Light Shop is a series “that explores life, death, and what makes us human,” as per The Hollywood Reporter, and will premiere on Disney+ during the second half of this year.
This project is derived from Kang’s coveted webtoon that shares the same name and chronicles a group of strangers trying to get past the traumatic occurrences in their lives. In their everyday lives, these strangers are drawn to a strange light shop at the end of a dangerous alleyway, which a watchful store owner staffs. Could the storekeeper be the missing link in unlocking the stranger’s pasts, presents and future?
The series is set to star Park Bo-young (A Werewolf Boy, Strong Girl Bong-soon), Ju Ji-hoon (The Spy Gone North, Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds), Lee Jung-eun (A Bloody Lucky Day, Extraordinary Attorney Woo) and Bae Seong-woo (Delayed Justice, Beasts Clawing at Straws) and will be directed by Kim Hee-won (No Tears for the Dead, The King’s Case Note).
Kang is a prominent writer and artist in Korea and internationally. He is best known for his other Disney+ hit K-drama, Moving, which, as The Hollywood Reporter notes, revolves around teens as they discover that they have superpowers.
Moving premiered last August, and per The Hollywood Reporter, just a week after its release, it obtained the title of the most-watched K-drama on Hulu and Disney+, globally and especially in the U.S.
Debuting in South Korea in November of 2021, Disney+ has been producing and releasing a myriad of local content to jump on the increasing popularity of K-dramas worldwide.
