Dilettante: True Tales of Excess, Triumph, and Disaster, is being adapted into a new series. According to Deadline, the series is created by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
Dilettante: True Tales of Excess, Triumph, and Disaster tells Brown’s story being Graydon Carter’s pupil and his career in the New York media world in the 1990s. The memoir showcases Brown’s life attending high profile ceremonies and being around A-list celebrities during his time at Variety.
According to Deadline, Brown said in an interview on the How Long Gone podcast that Berlanti and Warner Bros. TV had optioned his book for a new series. He revealed his memoir was being shopped around to broadcasters and streamers.
“I’m very focused on trying to get my book to TV screens…. my book is under option at Warner Brothers with Berlanti (Productions), which is the best company in TV to be at and we are getting close to taking this thing out. I’m excited because a ’90s New York show is my fantasy show,” Brown revealed on the How Long Gone podcast.
Dana Brown is a former deputy editor of Vanity Fair. He was responsible for hundreds of stories on topics ranging from geopolitics, business, pop culture and crime. Several of his features were recognized by the National Magazine Awards. He also wrote and developed films and television pilots for Miramax, Hulu, AMC, Imagine Entertainment, and CBS.
According to mxdwn, in September, Berlanti’s contract with Warner Brother’s Television was suspended due to the writers strike. He was apart of a large collective of producers with suspended productions having their contracts terminated.
According to Deadline, there is no additional information from Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions at this time.
