Every episode of Andor brings Cassian closer to his fateful mission. According to Entertainment Weekly, Tony Gilroy (Beirut, The Great Wall) and Diego Luna (Narcos: Mexico, And Your Mother Too) revealed some information about the upcoming season of Andor. In a recent interview with EW’s Dagobah Dispatch podcast, they talked about how the second season will have multiple time jumps to accommodate the story to the timeline of Rogue One. The pair also talked about their responsibility to complete Cassian’s story before he goes off to steal the Death Star plans.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the show’s second season will focus on the growth of the Rebel Alliance and how the revolution can go mainstream. When asked about the time spent developing the story in the second season, Gilroy has said that he already planned for time jumps to avoid “any of the awkward exposition” and to finish telling the story of Cassian.
Gilroy and Luna have assured the fans that they are doing everything possible to ensure Cassian’s story has a satisfactory ending before he heads off to his fatal Rogue One mission. Gilroy said in the interview, “[We have] a responsibility to the characters we’ve set up and launched into this world and their trajectories. Our responsibility is to bring it home efficiently. But mostly, it’s to pay off emotionally and stick the landing.”
Unfortunately, it looks like fans might have to wait a little longer before we find out how Cassian joins the Rebel Alliance. Due to the WGA strike, Gilroy has had to suspend his writing services to the show but after some backlash from some members of the WGA, he also suspended his non-writing services.
Andor’s cast includes Luna as Cassian Andor; Stellan Skarsgård (Mamma Mia!, The Avengers) as Luthen Rael; Denise Gough (Under the Banner of Heaven, Martyrs Lane) as Dedra Meero; Kyle Soller (Anna Karenina, Poldark) as Cyril Karn; Genevieve O’Reilly (Tin Star, The Dry) as Mon Mothma; Adria Arjona (Morbius, Father of the Bride) as Bix Caleen; Faye Marsay (Game of Thrones, Lady Chatterley’s Lover) as Vel Sartha; Varada Sethu (Jurassic World: Dominion, Strike Back) as Cinta Kaz; Anton Lesser (Game of Thrones, Endeavour) as Major Partagaz; Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings, Rise of the Planet of the Apes) as Kino Loy; Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter, Killing Eve) as Maarva Andor; and Jacob James Beswick (1917, The Ritual) as Attendant Heert.
The Star Wars show Andor follows Rogue One character Cassian Andor before he joined the Rebellion. In the show, the audience gets to see what Cassian has been through. The audience meets Cassian’s mother and his friends and what led him into the Rebellion in the first place. He first crosses paths with the Rebellion when he steals an important map that both the Rebellion and the Empire are looking for. Intertwined with Cassian’s story is the story of Rebellion leader Mon Mothma and how she has been helping the Rebellion.
Season two of Andor will premiere sometime in 2024. Season one of the show is available on Disney+. Rogue One and all other Star Wars movies are also available on Disney+.
