CBS Television Studios has signed a deal with the creator of Disney+’s Diary of a Future President, Illana Peña (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), according to The Hollywood Reporter. The deal will allow Peña to continue working with Disney+ on season 2 of her original series as well as developing further series with the network.
Inspired by her personal experiences as a child, Diary of a Future President surrounds a Cuban-American girl as she goes through middle school with aspirations, and later achieved dreams, of becoming the president of the United States. The series stars Charles Bushnell in his TV debut, Gina Rodriguez (Jane The Virgin, Someone Great), Selenis Leyva (Orange is the New Black), and Jessica Marie Garcia (On My Block, Liv and Maddie).
In response to her new deal made with CBS, Peña stated, “Since day one on Diary, CBS Studios has been so supportive of my vision and voice. I am incredibly grateful to the team for giving me a creative home to tell meaningful, inclusive stories,” via The Hollywood Reporter. Peña will soon join a list of artists that have deals at CBS Studios, including Jennie Snyder Urman (Jane The Virgin), Robert and Michelle King (Evil, The Good Fight), Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek), and Rodriguez.
