Things are getting hot and heavy for Ted Lasso, the Apple TV+ Original comedy series starring Jason Sudeikis (We’re the Millers) in the titular role. Just premiering its sophomore season on July 23, it’s already abuzz as Diane Sawyer responded to date proposal from the fictional character Lasso, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
Not a conventional way to ask someone out on a date, let alone an award-winning journalist and news anchor, the scene in question has the beloved soccer coach Lasso wistfully dreaming of going on a date with Sawyer. In it, Lasso is asked what he would say to a cocktail, to which he answers, “Oh the same thing I’d say to Diane Sawyer if she asked me out on date, yes please.” From there, the scene quickly began trending, and Sawyer was quick to answer. Jumping onto Twitter to give a reply to the fictional character, Sawyer wrote: “I’m in. Your Move.”

Two can play at this game, as the official Ted Lasso Twitter account then responded to Sawyer, tweeting: “Oh my…you’ve got me more on my heels than Lady Gaga at the Met Gala. Any chance you like biscuits?” See the full tweet below:
Time will tell what unfolds between the blossoming romance of Peabody-award winning journalist and a goofball soccer coach with a heart of gold. For now, Ted Lasso season two can be streamed in its entirety on Apple TV+. A critically acclaimed series, its currently up for several Emmy Awards at the upcoming ceremony in September, including Best Comedy Series, Best Actor for Sudeikis, Best Supporting Actress for Juno Temple (Palmer) and Hannah Waddingham (Game of Thrones), and many more.
