Dexter: Resurrection will officially continue in a second season. Leading man Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under, Paycheck) broke the news to fans in a video posted to Dexter‘s official YouTube channel (linked below).
“We’ve been greenlit for another season,” Hall says in the video. “The writers room is assembling now, and details will be forthcoming, but I wanted to be the first to let you know,” continued Hall, who gained a following as the lovable serial killer Dexter Morgan in both Dexter and its sequel miniseries, Dexter: New Blood.
Dexter: Resurrection takes place weeks after Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) takes a bullet to the chest from his own son, as he awakens from a coma to find Harrison (Jack Alcott) gone without a trace. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right, according to an official synopsis provided by Deadline.
Per Deadline, season one saw David Zayas (Skyline, The Expendables), who had played Detective Angel Batiste since the original show, depart Resurrection for good.
Alongside Hall are Jack Alcott (The Good Lord Bird, The Blacklist), who plays his son Harrison, as well as Uma Thurman (Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction), Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (The Lincoln Lawyer, Smoke), Kadia Saraf (The Good Fight, Blue Bloods), Dominic Fumusa (Nurse Jackie, Homeland), Emilia Suárez (A Good Person, Up Here), James Remar (Oppenheimer, Yellowstone), and Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, The Station Agent), according to Deadline.
Deadline reports Clyde Phillips, who served as showrunner for Dexter‘s first four seasons as well as New Blood and Resurrection‘s first season, will return as showrunner in season two, where he will also serve as executive producer. Also executive producing are Hall, Scott Reynolds (E-Ring, UTF), Tony Hernandez (Emily in Paris, Russian Doll), Lilly Burns (Broad City, Search Party), and Marcos Siega (The Waterfront, You).
The series continues from the ending of Dexter sequel New Blood, which saw Dexter and Harrison reunited before Harrison shoots his father and flees to New York, according to Deadline.
Dexter introduced the Miami-based crimefighter-turned-vigilante-murderer in 2006 to wide acclaim and aired on Showtime for a remarkable eight seasons over seven years.
