Despite facing criticism for increasing their prices, experiencing dips in the amount of new subscribers, and seeing 40% decrease in their online library, Netflix has managed to earn a 94.5% positive satisfaction rate from their subscribers.
According to Engadget, 94.5% is actually a 2% increase from the previous years number, indicating that Netflix still remains at the top when it comes to streaming services. These numbers come from CutCableToday who have also noted that “Netflix customer satisfaction has increased year-over-year, despite minor price increases and changes to content library.” Additionally, the remaining 5.5% are not dissatisfied with the service, only 1% have reported that they are displeased with Netflix, leaving only 4.5% accounted for.
This is extremely good news for Netflix. The recent surge in online streaming service has created fierce competition in the market. CBS All Access is now offering an ad free version of their service to compete with other sites. Hulu has Hulu plus to offer the same service, though that one is bit more pricey. Hulu has also announced that they will be removing their free streaming service from their site in order to promote and expand Yahoo View. Amazon Video is also a big name in streaming, not only providing content but also free shipping for subscribing to Amazon Prime. Networks have even begun to offer perks to online subscribers, like HBO and USA who released the first episodes of The Night of and Mr. Robot season 2 online before the shows premiered on air.
Streaming sites are also gunning for exclusive rights to certain networks’ content. In fact, the reason that Netflix has seen their online library dwindle is because other networks have decided to pull their content from Netflix in order to use it to promote their own services. Obviously their subscribers haven’t been to upset by this, or at least 94.5% of them. Netflix has also managed to score a deal with The CW, which will provide them with access to The CW’s programming within 8 days of shows season conclusion. There is also a ridiculous amount of original content coming from every site, with names like Woody Allen, Seth Rogen, and Smokey Robinson attached to projects.
If Netflix is setting any example in the streaming wars, it’s that keeping your subscribers happy is the key to success.
