With its fourth season signed, sealed and delivered, Fox’s Empire is using the third season finale to set big plans in motion. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Lee Daniels and Danny Strong drama has cast Demi Moore for a multiple-episode role.
Moore is better known for her role on the big screen, having seen the limelight in films like A Few Good Men, Indecent Proposal, and Ghost. Her television resume is still nothing to brush off, of course, but Empire is her biggest TV spot since General Hospital. It seems being intriguing and involved with hospitals works for her, too, since she will be portraying a mysterious nurse. Nothing is confirmed yet, but somehow she will find herself in touch and growing closer with the Lyons. Her daughter, Rumer Willis, has already appeared on this season as a singer-songwriter.
That’s not all, though. Amidst the casting of Moore have resurfaced talks about an Empire spinoff. Lee Daniels told The Hollywood Reporter in January, “We’re in talks. We’re finally figuring it out. It takes a minute, you know? We just really had to build the foundation of Empire, so we then try to figure out what that B-chorus is. It looks like it’s going to happen… We really are in deep talks about it, and we’re having all these ideas thrown around to figure it out. But I can officially say that we will be having a spinoff.”
There hasn’t been much information regarding a premise, but the safe bet would be on a series revolving around fan and critical darling Cookie, portrayed by the incomparable Taraji P. Henson. Despite a few ratings slumps here and there, Henson has remained a constant source of top notch entertainment and fantastic storytelling. Still, nothing is confirmed. Strong and Daniels could easily throw viewers for a loop.
Empire returns March 22 at 9 pm ET. Moore will make her debut on the April 5 season three finale. Until then, stay tuned with mxdwn for information regarding midseason news about Empire and its possible spinoff.
