

The mastermind behind global phenomenon Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk (The Fortress, Silenced) has returned to Netflix with a new project, but this time will be different. Reported by Screenrant, the series project will be named The Dealer, taking a sift from the deadly playground to the card table of a casino. Following the grimm conclusion of the Squid Game trilogy in 2025, which left fans deeply divided, Netflix has greenlit Hwang’s next major project.
While Squid Game remains the most-watched non-English series in streaming history, its third and final season saw audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes plummet to a rotten 51%, which is drastic decline from the previous seasons. According to Screenrant, most of the viewers were in anticipation on the fate that will be fold Seong Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae (The Acolyte The Housemaid) with some being happy about his nobel sacrifice and other felt like ending was rushed.
Screenrant states, what we currently know about the plot of the upcoming series is that it follows the journey of talented dealer, Geonwha, played by Jung So-min (Alchemy of Souls, Love Next Door), who plans to change her life by getting married, but discover some complications along the way leading her back to her.
Screenrant reports, the additional cast for the crime drama will include Ryoo Seung-bum (Family Matters, The Unjust) as the struggling gambler Hwang Chisu, Lee Soo-hyuk (S-Line, Tomorrow) as the formbidale casino player Jo Jun and Ryu Kyung-soo (Jung E, Noise) as Geonwha’s fiance as well as being a detective. The cinematographer that will be behind the stunts is Choi Young-hwan (Blood Rain, The Big Swindle) and will have their first directorial debut as well.
Whether Hwang can deliver another action-packed and emotional series is yet to be seen. While waiting for further information about The Dealer, all seasons of Squid Game are available to stream on Netflix.
