DC Universe’s new live action series Doom Patrol has cast Diane Guerrero (Orange is the New Black) as Crazy Jane, and she will be a series regular. Her character is described as an unlikely hero that is suffering from the most severe case of multiple personality disorder. She has 64 distinct personalities that actually manifests a different super power. This makes Jane Doom Patrol’s most powerful and most unstable team member. Guerrero will be co-staring in Greg Berlanti-produced drama opposite April Bowlby, who is playing as Elasti-Woman.
Guerrerro, herself, might be best known for her time on Netflix’s Orange is the New Black as Maritza Ramos. She has also been in CW series Jane the Virgin and CBS sitcom Superior Donuts. She has also written a memoir that is about her life as a citizen daughter but from an undocumented family.
The series itself is DC’s strangest group of outcasts, them being: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Woman, and Crazy Jane. All of which are led by Dr. Niles Caulder (whom is very mysterious. The group is called by the ultimate hero for the digital age, Cyborg. They come together and the strangest group find themselves on a mission that takes them to the strangest and unexpected areas in the DC Universe. Doom Patrol is based on a comic book and the series will be written by Jeremy Carver (Supernatural). He and Berlanti (executive producer for CW’s Arrow-verse), will executive produce the series along with Geoff Johns.
Doom Patrol is a 13-episode straight-to-series show that was ordered back in May. Production for the show will begin this year, and the series will premiere on DC Universe in 2019. DC Universe is the join venture of both Warner Bros Digital Networks and DC Entertainment.
