

According to Deadline, The role of James Rockford was highly sought after, but David Boreanaz (SAG Foundaton Conversations, Sleepy Hollow) was the one who ended up signing a deal with NBC for the lead role ofJames Rockford in the reboot of The Rockford Files. James Garner (First Night, Battle for Terra) portrayed James Rockford in the original show that ran on NBC in 1974. The Character James Rockford is a witty, and chronically broke private investigator.
Deadline noted that even though the Rockford Files is set in Los Angles, the pilot will begin filming in Atlanta then will finish filming in the Los Angeles area. The production company has not decided what city it will be based in once it gts picked up. If it it does get picked up it is possible that teh California Tax Credit will apply to the show if filmed in Hollywood. Looking at Boreanaz history of his pilots that he starred in, they all have been picked up for series. Just to name a few, The WB’s supernational drama, and the spin off from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the military drama, SEAL Team which aired on CBS/Paramount+ to Fox’s crime series, Bones. Totally more than 300 episodes that were picked up.
Deadline also mentioned that in the reboot, James Rockford returns to his life as a private investigator, using his whit and charm he solves cases around Los Angeles. Mike Daniels (Ponies, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin) is the writer and Sarah Timberman (Until The Wedding, RJ Decker) and Carl Beverly (SEAL Team, The Man Who Fell to Earth) are the producers of The Rockford Files. Daniels, Timberman and Beverly will be the executive producers along side Chris Leanza (The Man Who Fell to Earth, Justifed: City Primeval). Universal Television is the studio
