Dave Burd Comedy ‘Dave’ Back for Season 2 at FXX

FXX plans on bringing Dave back for a second season in 2021, according to Hollywood Reporter. The comedy series surrounding the life of Dave Burd, aka rapper Lil Dicky, achieved unexpected success with its first season, landing as the networks’ most-watched comedy series ever with an average audience of 5.32 total viewers on various streaming platforms.

“That is an extraordinary achievement for Dave, the cast and crew as they teamed to make a memorable and brilliant season of television,” FX originals president Nick Grad told Hollywood Reporter.

Dave Burd, aka Lil Dicky, rose to fame for his rapping abilities with first recognizable performance in 2015, “Professional Rapper”, a music video he composed and rapped in with hip-hop legend, Snoop Dogg (Half Baked); along with “Pillow Talking”, a comedic rap sketch, setting up pillow-talking conversation. From here, Burd’s career took different directions as his comedic and acting ability became recognized with his comedic short in 2019, Lil Dicky: Earth, along with composing soundtrack for The Lego Batman Movie. Eventually he landed Dave, which finished season one on April 29.

Dave surrounds a distraught man in his 20s convinced he is the best rapper of all time. The cast is rather impressive with comedian Andrew Santino (The Disaster Artist), GaTa, Travis Bennett (Loiter Squad), Christine Ko (Hawaii Five-0), and Taylor Misiak (Pillow Talk) as co-stars, and featured guest stars including Justin Bieber, Young Thug, Trippie Redd and Kourtney Kardashian. The show also has Kevin Hart (Jumaji: Welcome to the JungleGet Hard) amongst its executive producers.

“This was my first rodeo, so I’m super excited to take another crack at it now that I’ve got some experience making television. It really feels like the sky is the limit with this show. I look forward to raising the bar even higher next year,” said Burd to Hollywood Reporter.

The first completed season of Dave can be streamed on Hulu backed by Disney, with episodes up the day after their linear debut. The season two release date is still unknown.
