Fox’s Empire will return in September for another season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, writers of the breakout hip-hop drama announced on Friday that the new season will premiere September 23. The show will still air on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on Fox.
The second season will consist of 18 new episodes, each split in to two parts. Alicia Keys, Chris Rock and Lenny Kravitz are some of the guest stars already lined up for the new season. Ne-Yo, a Grammy winner, will compose original music for the new episodes.
The drama on Fox was a huge hit in its premiere season. Fox’s upcoming schedule is putting a lot of pressure on Empire in hopes of the show’s continued success.
Ilene Chaiken, Empire showrunner, recently signed a deal with 20th Century Fox Television. This deal will allow the series production to be with Imagine Television. Empire is created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong. Daniels and Strong executive produce with Imagine’s Brian Grazer, Chaiken and Francie Calfo.
