Back in November 2013, Marvel and Netflix announced that they would team up to produce four new superhero shows including the popular Jessica Jones and Daredevil series, in addition to the upcoming Luke Cage and Iron Fist series.
As many know, the four superheroes from the separate series would eventually join forces and form The Defenders in a Netflix miniseries. Netflix hasn’t officially set a premiere date for The Defenders but according to Movieweb, Charlie Cox, the actor who plays Matt Murdock AKA Daredevil, said that the series would began shooting at the end of this year.
Here’s what Cox said during a Netflix event in Paris over the weekend, “What we do know is at the end of this year we’re going to be making The Defenders and, of course, Daredevil is very much a part of that foursome. I have no idea what the storyline is going to be for that show. I’m very excited to see how those world’s combine…and interested to see tonally how those shows become one.”
Currently, there are no exact details regarding the concept of The Defenders. And no info has been given about the crew behind the camera for this miniseries. It also hasn’t been revealed whether or not any of the actors or directors who work on Marvel’s series for Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist will assist with The Defenders or if Netflix will instead bring in a new creative team.
In addition, Cox was asked if The Defenders will finish up any particular storylines to which he replied “In terms of wrapping up any storylines, maybe they’ll do some of that in The Defenders. Or maybe they won’t.”
Daredevil recently premiered its second season while Jessica Jones was renewed for a second season. The Luke Cage and Iron Fist series have yet to debut and it’s not for certain they they will be renewed by Netflix.
