Marvel’s highly successful series Daredevil established the first of four Netflix original series for the The Defenders which will eventually unite superheroes Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.
Two new characters being introduced for the second season of Daredevil are Elektra (Elodie Yung) and The Punisher (Jon Bernthal), the antiheroes.
Entertainment Weekly recently reported that the Daredevil showrunners Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez promise that the popular series will continue to maintain all the action, drama, and romance but with a much faster pace in terms of when the antagonist will appear and the action in general. In season one of the series, Kingpin was the mysterious villain who didn’t appear until later on in the season.
Season 2, in contrast, will kickoff with an action sequence where viewers will immediately introduce The Punisher. Petrie stated that “the advantage of any sequel is you can dive right in,” Petrie also went on to say that “We hit the ground running and ten we ran as fast as we f—ing could.”
In addition to the crime fighting action there will also be a lot more “action.” In comparison to Jessica Jones, the first season of Daredevil didn’t have a lot of sex. In season 2, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) will be getting a lot more comfy with Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) and Elektra. In regards to Matt’s relationship with Elektra, Petrie indicates that she “does everything wrong and attractive, she’s his id, the wild side. Matt is always taming his wild side. Elektra just lets it out. He’s both repulsed and deeply drawn to that.”
Another new change that season 2 will bring is brightness? As fans may recall, season 1 of Daredevil had many scenes in dark settings whereas season 2 will “still be dark, but we’ve added more layers,” says Petrie.
The second season of Daredevil will return in 2016.
