According to TVLine Disney+ Daredevil: Born Again cast features returning actors from Netflix’s Daredevil, including Charlie Cox (Stardust, The Defenders) as Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket, Men in Black) as Wilson Fisk. The series has yet to include Jon Bernthal’s (The Walking Dead, Fury) Punisher character, but his first appearance is on the horizon.
TVLine reported that Bernthal had already joined the series before it’s mid-season team reconstruction that lead to Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood, Escape Room), Elden Henson (The Defenders, The Mighty Ducks) and Ayelet Zurer (Angels and Demons, Man of Steel) rejoining the Daredevil universe. It also brought on Dario Scardapane (Trauma, Memory) as the showrunner. Scardapane previously worked as an executive producer on Marvel’s The Punisher, starring Bernthal.
“Jon is near and dear to my heart,” reported TVLine. “It was amazing to come back and get to work with him again.”
Although Bernthal has not made his Daredevil: Born Again debut, the show has teased the audience with Punisher skull imagery in multiple episodes. Viewers speculate that the iconic antagonist will join the ranks soon.
TVLine asked Scardapane about the context surrounding Bernthal’s return to the show.
“I feel that whenever Frank comes into the story, hijinks ensue,” Spardapane said, “and in this story, that is very, very true.
“He comes in for a very, very particular reason, he is brought in by a very, very particular person, and I think that it will be immensely satisfying — and a bit like, ‘Oh, my God,’” he added.
After all, “Whenever you put Frank and Daredevil together, all bets are off. It’s a tornado,” he continued. “I mean… we broke some stuff!”
Bernthal is also reappearing as Frank Castle in an independent Punisher special that will come out on Disney+.
Daredevil Born-Again entire first season and four of nine episodes of season two is available to stream on Disney+, with new episodes dropping Tuesdays at 9pm.
