Die-hard comic fans will be pleased to find that a small but crucial detail has been added in the next season of Daredevil: Born Again. According to Comicbook, a preview of Matt Murdock/Daredevil’s suit showcases the iconic double-D logo on his chestplate. View the new photo below.
The photo comes courtesy of EW, who sat with Marvel’s head of TV and animation, Brad Winderbaum (X-Men ’97, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man), to discuss all things Marvel coming to New York Comic Con this week. After an exclusive first look at season two, Entertainment Weekly confirmed that Charlie Cox (Treason, Stardust) will finally don the “DD” logo that had been absent in all the previous iterations. That includes three seasons at Netflix, cameo appearances in Echo and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and this year’s first season of Born: Again.
According to Comicbook, the logo has been scarce in live-action appearances, dating back to the hero’s first on-screen role in the TV movie The Trial of the Incredible Hulk. Years later, even Ben Affleck’s (The Town, Argo) film version of the blind vigilante lacked a prominent logo, with the two D’s appearing smaller and off-centre.
Daredevil: Born Again finally arrived on Disney+ in March, bringing a tumultuous creative journey to a close. mxdwn previously reported that the original idea for the revival — a narrative reset — was abandoned for a continuation of the 2015 Daredevil series, which ran for three seasons on Netflix. In addition to reuniting Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio (Godfather of Harlem, Men in Black), the series added a handful of familiar faces with new cast members.
Fans can expect more additions for season two, including the return of Krysten Ritter’s (Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23, Breaking Bad) Jessica Jones, who starred in her own series and the crossover limited series, The Defenders. The second season also adds Matthew Lillard (Cross, Teen Titans Go!) and Lili Taylor (American Crime, The Conjuring).
The series was picked up for a two-season order, 18 episodes split into halves. Recently, Winderbaum confirmed that a third season has been greenlit, giving fans hope that more Netflix-era characters will return to the fold, from Mike Colter’s (The Following, Evil) Luke Cage to Elodie Young’s (The Cleaning Lady, The Defenders) Elektra.
With production wrapped, season two is set to arrive next year. For more details on the series and future projects within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, follow us here for all your NYCC news tomorrow.
