Marvel’s M-rated series Daredevil: Born Again has already been renewed for a third season, according to a report today from IGN. The Disney+ continuation of the Netflix series, which lasted three seasons during its original run, was revived by the streaming giant eight years after its cancellation in 2018.
“In terms of Daredevil,” the head of Marvel Studios’ streaming and television, Brad Winderbaum, confirmed to IGN, “yeah, we are greenlit for season three and we start shooting next year.”
Charlie Cox’s (Stardust, Adults) portrayal of Matt Murdock/Daredevil, a blind superhero endowed with both enhanced senses and a strong connection to his Catholic faith, first established him as one of the defining characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s television offerings when season one of Daredevil (minus the Born Again subtitle) released on Netflix in 2015. Since the licensing rights to the character reverted back to Disney in 2022 (per The Hollywood Reporter), the character has made cameos in a number of other Marvel projects, including Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk.
However, the critical acclaim the original Daredevil series received also came attached to lofty expectations for any continuations — expectations that Born Again struggled to meet during production. After initial reviews of Born Again led Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to conclude the series “wasn’t working”, via The Hollywood Reporter), with Cox reportedly not appearing as Daredevil until the fourth episode, the show underwent a creative reboot, trading writers Matt Corman (Covert Affairs, Deck the Halls) and Chris Ord (The Enemy Within, Containment) for writers with previous experience writing Marvel shows. Some of the footage from the first draft of Born Again was repurposed for the final version, leading to a show that, while largely considered a worthy successor to the original, felt uneven in the eyes of many critics.
The good news is that Marvel seems to be keeping the same writers who took over season one of Born Again for seasons two and three, which is likely to lead to a more cohesive and well-rounded continuation due to an absence of creative restrictions. Season two is set to premiere sometime in March 2026, with shooting for season three taking place around the same time, according to IGN. In the meantime, fans can rewatch season one of Born Again and all three seasons of the original Daredevil now on Disney+.
