According to a Deadline article actress Danielle Deadwyler (Till, The Piano Lesson) will be joining as a main character with several other cast members such as Steve Carell (Despicable Me 4, IF) , Charly Clive (The Lazarus Project, All My Friends Hate Me) and Phil Dunster (The Good Liar, Judy) in Carell’s newest comedy series airing on HBO.
Deadline says that the show will take place on a college campus. The official logline provided by Variety describes it as “a single-camera comedy set on a college campus, centering on an author’s (Carell) complicated relationship with his daughter (Clive). Deadwyler will be playing the role of the head of the English Department at the college, which will is supposed to be a contrast from carells role in the show. Variety states that at the premium cabler in May 2024 the show was taken into consideration. The show will include 10 half hour episodes.
The first episodes were written by Bill Lawrence (Wrong Place, Out Of Death) and Matt Tarses (Scrubs, Sports Night), and according to Variety they both are executive producers along with Carell. The show is produced through Doozer productions with producers Jeff Ingold who is the producer for Ted Lasso and Lisa Katzer who is the producer for Moonshine inc. .
Prior to this project Deadwyler has been in numerous films such I Saw the TV Glow in which she just made a recent appearance and Carry-On. She also been in films such as “fellow WBD shows “Watchmen” and “Station Eleven,” as well as shows like “P-Valley” at Starz and “From Scratch” at Netflix. She is primarily known for her film work, having exhibited breakout performances in features such as “Till,” “The Harder They Fall,” and “The Piano Lesson.” per Variety.
Deadwyler is an Atlanta native and will soon cement her place in this upcoming comedy series. The official name of the show has not been realized yet per Deadline.
