Netflix has dropped a cryptic teaser for the highly anticipated third season of Squid Game, and the internet is ablaze with speculation. The global pheneomeon has attracted a broad fanbase with its unique concept of challengers participating in dangerous challenges centered around familiar children games, with such examples being red light green light, tug-of-war and mingle.
According to mxdwn, the third season will follow the events from the finale of the previous one, in which Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae (The Acolyte, New World), leads the other participants to revolt and end the game. But he fails and it results in the death of his friend Jung-bae, played by Lee Seo-hwan (Gentleman, Switch) , who was killed by the Frontman, played by Lee Byung-hun (The Match, Concrete Utopia).
The tantalizing teaser opens up with the pink guards carrying an unconscious Gi-hun inside a present coffin back into the waiting room. We also get a glimpse into new challenges being introduced, with one being a gumball machine filled with blue and red spheres, with the participants drawing them, which could symbolize a battle between the colors. There will surely be more dangerous games in future updates for the final season.
The teaser also shows action happening outside the game’s arena, with officer Hwang Jun-ho, played by Wi Ha-joon (Gyeongseong Creature, Bad and Crazy), who located the island and found a way on it. We also see the suspicious pink guard, played by Park Gyu-young (Sweet Home, Celebrity), outside checking the area for any weak spots and coming up with her own plan.
The subtle yet impactful hints shown reveal that the stakes of the show have just increased. According to mxdwn, while fans await on the release of the highly anticipated third and final season, which is rumored to premiere June 27, 2025, both previous seasons of Squid Game are available to stream on Netflix.
