The network just bought a new hourlong drama set in Malibu in the sixties.
Deadline reported exclusively that Rebecca Sinclair (90210‘ s showrunner) just teamed up with Carol Mendelsohn to produce a new original tv show for The CW.
The show is set in Malibu in 1961 and it will depict California’s surf culture at the time, which led to a wave of social change that converted America. It will follow a crew of surfers and their respective lives, while going through some important historic marks at the same time.
“We wanted to tell a different kind of story about the ’60s, one that explored the real events that led to the birth of California’s surf culture,” Mendelsohn said earlier today, “We’ll lure the audience in with gorgeous beaches, girls in bikinis and hot shirtless guys but then leave them grappling with big ideas.”
The project is still untitled and both Sinclair and Mendelsohn will executive produce it, along with CMP President Julie Weitz.
