The cable network CW, known for its teen dramas and DC comics series such as Arrow, has released the premiere dates for new series Stargirl, the second season of In the Dark, and the seventh and final season for network staple The 100, according to Deadline. The CW, under ViacomCBS and Warner Bros., has featured numerous successful series for the DC comic television universe, such as Arrow and The Flash, in addition to reality series and dramas like Supernatural and Charmed. Last year the network released its first true comedy series, In the Dark, to supplement its program lineup.
The new DC Universe series, Stargirl, will premiere on Tuesday, May 12th at 9 PM ET. The ‘super’ cast is comprised of Brec Bassinger (Bella and the Bulldogs) as Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl, Luke Wilson (Old School) as Courtney’s stepfather, and Amy Smart (Varsity Blues) as Barbara, Courtney’s mother. Stargirl follows Courtney’s discovery of a cosmic staff with superpowers and partners up with her step-father to learn what it means to become a hero. Following the premiere, the show will be available for streaming on the network’s free streaming services, CWTV.com and The CW app. Additionally, In the Dark was recently renewed for a second season starring Perry Mattfeld (Shameless). The second season is set to premiere on Thursday, May 28th at 9 PM ET.
Finally, a CW staple series, The 100, will return for its seventh and final season on May 20th at 8 PM ET. The 100 follows the adventures and trials of one hundred juvenile detainees being sent back to Earth a century after a nuclear apocalypse. The series has received critical acclaim and mass fanfare over its characters and storylines. With the departure of The 100 paired with the arrival of the new Stargirl, the CW’s announcement of staggered premiere dates for an established series and upcoming series will help retain audiences’ fanfare for CW’s original content.
