The latest series from hip-hop mogul and executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (Power, For Life) has added three actors to its cast. According to Deadline, Starz’s Black Family Mafia has secured Russell Hornsby (Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector, Grimm), Steve Harris (The Practice, Bringing Down the House), and Arkeisha “Kash Doll” Knight (Birds of a Feather 2, I Got the Hook-Up 2) to the show. This is the third series as a result of Jackson’s overall deal with Starz.
According to Deadline, Jackson will executive produce through his production company, G-Unit Film & Television. Additional executive producers include Terri Kopp (Third Watch, Law & Order), Anthony Wilson, and Anne Clements (Stage Mother, Quinceanera). Detroit native and show writer Randy Huggins (Rebel, Criminal Minds) will also executive produce. They are joined by Starz Senior VP of Original Programming Kathryn Tyus-Adair and Lionsgate Television’s Erin Conroy. The series will begin filming in Detroit and Atlanta next year.
Black Family Mafia will explore the 1980s uprising of one of Detroit’s most notorious criminal families: brothers Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory via Deadline. The series will capture how the brothers rose from humble beginnings to sitting atop the drug game and beyond. The two soon extended their strongarms in the world of hip-hop, forever leaving their mark on the industry.
According to Deadline, Hornsby and Harris are series regulars, while Knight will have a recurring role. Hornsby will be family patriarch, Charles Flenory. The righteous provider works diligently to protect his family, especially when his eldest son Demetrius begins to influence the younger Terry. Harris will star as Detective Bryant of the Detroit Police Department. A longtime friend of Demetrius, their loyalty will be strained when Bryant is assigned to lead the new narcotics operation. Lastly, Knight will be Monique, a single mother working for the largest defense attorney firm in Detroit. As Demetrius’ lover, her role at the firm will be vital for the Flenory family business.
