Larry David’s iconic comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm will return to HBO this fall for its 9th season. HBO released a small promo trailer to officially announce the show’s return, with Larry David dressed in a Roman tunic à la Julius Caesar and the trailer’s text humorously announcing, “He left, he did nothing, he returned.” Along with Larry David himself, cast members Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, and JB Smoove are all set to return for the 9th season.
It has been nearly 6 years since the show, in which Larry David plays a fictionalized version of himself, has aired on television. Its most recent Season 8 finished in the summer of 2011. Despite the promo’s jab at David, the comedic actor has been busy since the HBO comedy was last on air, making his Broadway debut as both an actor and playwright with Fish in the Dark as well as playing Bernie Sanders for a number of Saturday Night Live bits during the Presidential election season.
In 2015, when HBO programming chief Michael Lombardo was prodded for an answer as to what was taking so long for a Curb Your Enthusiasm return, he admitted that he met with Larry David and the two discussed Season 9. “He pulled out a little notebook and said, ‘Know what this is? It’s the next season.,’” Lombardo told reporters. “I don’t think it’s out of his system. I think he wants to have something to say.” It would appear that now, in 2017, David’s found something to say.
Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 9 will return to HBO on October 1 at 10pm. All episodes of the comedy series can be viewed on HBO’s streaming services.
