According to TVLine, Jeanette Turner will not be happy when she hears the news of Cruel Summer’s return. After undergoing changes in 2023, Freeform is apparently eyeing a season three with Olivia Holt (Cloak & Dagger, Same Kind As A Different Me) returning in her role as Kate Wallis.
TVline has reported that Holt will also join Jessica Biel (Scooby Doo And Guess Who?, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and Michelle Purple (Fatal Destination, The Better Sister) as an executive producer for the third season. Cori Uchida (Altered Carbon, Sons Of Anarchy) and Adam Lash (The Wrestling Road Diaries, Blood Light) will serve as executive producers and showrunners for the series, Variety has reported.
According to TVLine, Holt also posted on her social media celebrating her return to the role, stating, “Kate Wallis, it’s good to be you again.”

According to TVLine, the first season of Cruel Summer chronicled the dichotomy between two high school-aged girls in the years 1993 to 1995. Wallis, Holt’s character, is the queen bee of high school whose life is turned upside down following a year-long kidnapping. Jeanette, played by Chaira Aurelia (Luckiest Girl Alive, Fear Street: Part Two – 1978), is an outcast who is suspected of using Wallis’ disappearance as a means of social climbing.
TVline has reported that despite the first season ending with many unanswered questions, the show was then turned into an anthology, revamping both the cast and storyline. The second season aired in 2023 without answers to the initial cliffhanger.
TVLine has reported that Freeform has yet to comment on the posts or possible new seasons.
