According to The Hollywood Reporter, Prime Video’s Cruel Intentions will not return for a second season. The series, which is a continuation of a 1999 film with the same title, has been canceled after one season.
Cruel Intentions had a rocky start to airing its first season in November. The series first started at Freevee in 2021 before moving to Prime Video in 2023. Way before moving to either streaming platform, the series had multiple pilots ordered and canceled by NBC 2016— as well as an attempted prequel series from Fox.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the series is described and will be following “the elite students of Manchester College, a Washington, D.C.-adjacent university, where reputation means everything, fraternities and sororities are the gold standard, and two ruthless step-siblings, Caroline Merteuil and Lucien Belmont , will do anything to stay on top of the cutthroat social hierarchy. After a brutal hazing incident threatens the entire Greek Life system, they’ll do whatever is necessary to preserve their power and reputation – even if that means seducing Annie Grover (Smith), the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. Hearts will be broken, loyalties will be tested, and secrets will be revealed in this modern-day royal court that is Manchester College.”
The series stars Sarah Catherine Hook (The White Lotus), Zac Burgess (Boy Swallows Universe), Savannah Lee Smith (Murder at the Murder Mystery Party), Sara Silva (American Horror Stories), John Harlan Kim (The Little Things), Khobe Clarke (An Amish Sin), Sean Patrick Thomas, Brooke Lena Johnson (Save the Last Dance) and many others.
Neal H. Moritz (The Fast and the Furious) and Roger Kumble (The Sweetest Thing) wrote and produced the original film, as well as working in the series based on Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ (Les liaisons dangereuses) classic novel Dangerous Connections.
The current first and final season of Cruel Intentions is available to stream on Prime Video.
