Critical Role’s Metapigeon Acquires Scripted Podcast Series ‘Midst,’ Plans Content Expansion

The creators of Critical Role and their newly minted production company, Metapigeon, are embarking on their first original entertainment IP acquisition. Per an official press release, the development studio has obtained the sci-fantasy podcast series, Midst. The company will also partner with the podcast’s creator, Third Person, to expand the Midst brand across mediums.

Midst is an imaginative podcast series set in the town of Stationary Hill which sits on an island. The unique story is told by three unreliable narrators – seemingly anonymous – who detail the misadventures of three distinct characters: a devilish bastard, an irritable outlaw, and a flailing cultist. Listeners will embark on a truly immersive storytelling experience where the voice actors will portray all characters – possibly multiple at the same time – all while weaving different perspectives and breaking the fourth wall.

“In lieu of the trumpet and explosion emojis that would be the truest expression of our feelings, we can say with full sincerity that we are over the moon to have found partners with such phenomenal passion and talent for creative multimedia storytelling,” the podcast founders said via the press release. “Critical Role and Metapigeon are enabling us to bring Midst to life in ways we never imagined possible, and we can’t wait to share what’s in store with fans both old and new.”

According to the press release, the series’ current two seasons will be re-released under Critical Role with mastered audio and accompanying video versions of each episode. And a third season is currently in the works with a promise of more to come.

“As part of our ongoing effort to expand the types of narratives we share and elevate new storytellers, we remain focused on exploring diverse IP in a multitude of mediums,” Ben Van Der Fluit, Critical Role’s SVP of Business and Content Development, said via the press release. “Working with the narrators of Midst has been a dream – we’re such fans of the world they have built, and we look forward to continuing to empower their creative dreams.”

Listeners can expect the first three remastered episodes to launch for free on April 11, 12, and 13 across Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and Critical Role’s YouTube Channel. Subsequent episodes will be available Wednesdays at 5 p.m. Pacific time. Paid subscribers will reap the first five episodes and can enjoy the remainder of the two seasons two weeks earlier via the Midst website. One can subscribe monthly for $2.99 or annually at $29.99. Paid subscribers will also receive access to bonus content while experiencing the story ad-free.
