“Critical Role’s livestream campaigns are the spark that lit the flame for our worldwide audience,” said Critical Role co-founder and CEO, Travis Willingham (Batman And Superman: Battle of the Super Sons), via Deadline. “Seeing the stories and characters from our first campaign come to life in The Legend of Vox Machina was a dream realized, and we are absolutely buzzing with excitement to do it again with Mighty Nein. But with today’s announcement, we’re confident that the stories we tell will keep expanding into realms of entertainment beyond what we can even imagine.”
Based on Critical Role’s second story campaign, Deadline reports Mighty Nein will follow a group of criminals’ journey from misfits to heroes as they become the kingdom’s last hope against an ancient power falling into the wrong hands. The series will be the second animated fare from Critical Role on the streamer as The Legend of Vox Machina is currently airing its second season, which began on January 20. A third season was announced at last year’s New York Comic Con and is currently in production.
Head of Global Television at Amazon Studios, Vernon Sanders, told Deadline, “With the success of our animated series The Legend of Vox Machina, we are looking forward to continuing our relationship with Critical Role and expanding its universe with Mighty Nein. Expanding these iconic franchises for our global Prime Video customers continues to be an ambitious and rewarding journey and we are eager to see where this new series takes us.”
Willingham will executive along with Sam Riegel (Blue Exorcist: The Movie) and Tasha Huo (Witcher: Blood Origin) via Metapiegon, according to Deadline. They are joined by esteemed animation studio Titmouse’s Ben Kalina (The Midnight Gospel), Shannon Prynoski (Chicago Party Aunt), Antonio Canobbio (Love, Death & Robots), and Chris Prynoski (Star Trek: Lower Decks).
New episodes of The Legend of Vox Machina are released every Friday on Amazon Prime Video.
