‘Critical Role’ Delays Week’s Episode Due To California Wildfires

As citizens and first responders contend with the continuous wildfires in southern California, another LA-based production has been postponed. The Critical Role team announced the cancellation of today’s episode in an Instagram post on Wednesday night. They hope to resume filming on January 16. View the complete post below.

“As the evolving fires in Los Angeles are directly impacting our cast and crew, we’re taking a break from streaming this week with the intention of returning to Exandria next Thursday, January 16th,” the post read. They detailed appreciation for their fanbase, known as Critters, who made it possible for the Legend of Vox Machina creators to donate $30,000 to the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund via their Critical Role Foundation.

“Your generosity continues to help us fund emergency response efforts around the world and close to home, thank you!” they stated in the IG post. They encouraged folks to care for themselves and each other in light of the natural disaster and listed links to resources for those in need.

According to CNN, the most destructive wildfire in LA history has placed 130,000 people under evacuation orders. Five fires have ignited throughout Santa Monica and Malibu and recently spread toward the Runyon Canyon of the Hollywood Hills. The wildfires have consumed more than 17,000 acres and nearly 2,000 homes, businesses, and other landmarks. Five people have perished due to the fires.

Critical Role founder Marisha Ray (Candela Obscura) shared photos of the damage from her Instagram stories.

“We had to evacuate, but we are safe,” Ray wrote in the post. “Didn’t have time to gather much other than a few change of clothes and food for Omar. But ultimately, the three of us are ok, and that’s all that matters.”

The wildfires have caused delays throughout the entertainment industry. Several shows paused production while other events have been canceled or rescheduled.
