Fans of Critical Role received great news as the team behind the imaginative role-playing series announced the long-awaited Campaign 3 will be premiering next month. According to the press release, the third installment will debut Thursday, October, 21 at 7 p.m. PT on Critical Role‘s Twitch and YouTube channels. In addition to one’s TV or computer screens, Cinemark Theaters has partnered with the two streaming platforms to simulcast the first episode live at participating theaters in 20 cities across the United States.
The third season will follow the events of this past summer’s Exandria Unlimited and the second campaign, which followed three-year journey with the Mighty Nein. Critters, the name of Critical Role’s devoted followers, can expect a new adventure with returning and new characters. This time around the story is to take place in Marquet, another land in the world of Exandria.
Critical Role began in 2012 as an offshoot of the popular tabletop game, Dungeons & Dragons. A group of friends who all work in voice acting decided to comprise their own version of the role-playing game. What began as a fun activity in each other’s living rooms morphed into a multi-platform phenomenon, touching everything from podcasts to its latest adaptation as an animated series.
Favorites of the Critical Role cast are set to return, with creator Matthew Mercer (Monsters University. HunterxHunter) being joined by the talents of Laura Bailey (Monster High, Soul Eater), Liam O’Brien (Talks Machina, Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina), Ashley Johnson (Blindspot, Growing Pains), Taliesin Jaffe (Mr. Mom, Signal Boost), Marisha Ray (UnDeadwood, Super Power Beat Down), Sam Riegel (Turtles Forever, Sofia the First), and Travis Willingham (Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess, Ultimate Spider-Man).
According to the presser, new episodes will air every Thursday at 7 p.m. PT/11 p.m. ET following the premiere across Twitch and YouTube. For those who may miss the live telecast, the episodes will be available for VOD. Twitch subscribers will have access immediately following an initial airing, while YouTube will have the episode available the following Monday. And if you’re a fan of the Critical Role podcast, the episode will be available the following week via Spotify, Apple & Google Podcasts.
