As HBO Max, a streaming service from WarnerMedia, is set to launch within the next year, they’re getting ready by increasing their new original content. One of those shows, Made For Love, just cast Cristin Milioti as their leading actress. Made For Love is one of two previously announced projects in production at WarnerMedia with Patrick Somerville (Maniac, The Leftovers) at the helm. The other project, Station Eleven, is also adapted from a novel.
Made For Love is based on a novel of the same name by Alissa Nutting that received high praise when it first came out in 2017. Publications like GQ and The New Yorker named it one of the best books of the year. The story is described as “a dark, absurd, and cynically poignant story of divorce and revenge.” The series plans to show “how far some will go for love and how much further others will go to destroy it.” The official logline reads:
Hazel Green (Milioti) leaves her husband of ten years, an unstable, needy possibly sociopathic tech billionaire, only to discover that he has implanted her with a prototype of the “Made For Love”, a monitoring device he can use to track her. Not only that, he can watch her and know her thoughts and feelings as she tries to escape to her desert hometown where her widower father awaits with his highly functional sex doll. Also, there are dolphins.
One may recognize Milioti for her work on the Amazon series Modern Love. She also appeared in the episode USS Callister of the anthology series Black Mirror, as well as the second season of Fargo and as the titular mother in How I Met Your Mother. Her work in film includes a role in The Wolf of Wall Street as well as the upcoming Palm Springs with Andy Samberg. Milioti also has a Grammy and a Tony nomination for her performance in the Broadway musical Once.
HBO Max is set to launch in beta in the fourth quarter of this year. Original scripted material will be added to the service in 2020. Legacy content from the complete WarnerMedia library will be available on the service, including shows like Friends, Game of Thrones, and The Sopranos. New scripted material includes the recently announced Gossip Girl reboot as well as the previously announced animated Gremlins show.
