Crew Members of Disney+ Series ‘The Muppet Mayhem’ Involved in Car Accident Near Set

Deadline reports an automobile accident involving crew members of the Disney+ series, The Muppet Mayhem, occurred late Friday evening. The series, currently in production, was shooting on location in California when crew members struck a tree near Griffith Observatory. No one was hurt in the incident.

Given the accident was reported to have occurred around 11:30 p.m. that evening, Deadline reports the industry is reminded of the bad habit of too-long production hours, which can lead to tired crews and costly mistakes. Deadline reached out for comment from FilmLA, a non-profit company that keeps a record of any incidents occurring on production sets on city streets or venues. They did not respond to Deadline’s request.

The show itself is the brainchild of Adam F. Goldberg (The Goldbergs), according to Deadline. In collaboration with long-time Muppets actor Bill Barretta (Muppets Tonight) and Jeff Yorkes (Drew: The Man Behind the Poster), Goldberg has crafted series that follows the veteran muppets musical act, The Electric Mayhem Band, as they pursue modern-day success in recording their first album. The live-action series has cast Lilly Singh (Dollface) as the band’s A&R to guide them beyond the confines of being background players for Kermit and Miss Piggy to reach the top of the Billboard charts. The series will also star Saara Chaudry and Anders Holm.

According to Deadline, the show will have Baretta portray Mayhem’s lead vocalist and keyboardist, Dr. Teeth. Everyone’s favorite red-haired drummer, Animal, will be portrayed by Eric Jacobson (Muppets Now). Matt Vogel (Muppets Most Wanted) will be Floyd Pepper, the band’s bassist. David Rudman (The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland) is Mayhem’s lead guitarist, Janice. And the horn section consists of Dave Goelz (The Great Muppet Caper) and Peter Linz (The Muppets) as saxophonist Zoot and trumpet player, Lips, respectively.

Barretta and Goldberg will executive produce along with Michael Bostick (Liar Liar) and Kris Eber (Loot), according to Deadline. They’re joined by David Lightbody (Muppets Haunted Mansion) and Leigh Slaughter (Muppet Babies) of The Muppet’s Studio. Yorkes is a co-executive producer.

This is the second attempt at a show centering on the Muppets for Disney. ABC had The Muppets run for one season before its cancellation in 2015.
