Netflix has wasted no time renewing Crew Girl, ordering second season less than two weeks after its Sept. 10 premiere. The YA Series starring Miku Martineau garnered great success with raving numbers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The series follows Teagan Tao, played by Miku Martineau (The Miniature Wife, Honor Society), who faces an unexpected challenge when she arrives at her new prep school and discovers there is no girls’ rowing team. Determined to stay on the water, she takes on the role of coxswain for the school’s “notoriously dysfunctional” boys’ crew. Her decision soon leads to team drama, personal complications, and romance both on and off the water.
Martineau shared her excitement for the new season in a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter: “it will definitely be a packed, juicy, drama-filled second season, so I’m ready to get back in a boat and on camera.”
During the week of its premiere, Crew Girl took the No. four spot for English-language series and rose to the No. two for its second week. The series scored 70.1 million hours and 11.3 million views worldwide. This does not include Nielsen’s U.S. streaming ratings, which are due to be released Thursday.
The full cast of Crew Girl includes Martineau, Jessica Paré (SEAL Team, Lost and Delirious), Sam Braun (A Family Nightmare: Secrets on Maple Streets), Kyle Clark (The Girl Who Wasn’t Dead, Girl in the Cellar) and Thomas Cadrot (He Wasn’t Man Enough, Colour Me Blue). Blue Ant Studios produces the series, which was developed by Vivian Lin (Popularity Papers, Holly Hobbie) and Morwyn Brebner (Wild Cards, Mary Kills People). Lin executive produces with Jeff Norton (The Small Hand (Ghost Story), Hanni & Nanni), Lindsay Macadam (How to Lose a Popularity Contest, Highway Thru Hell), Hillary Zwick Turner (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, Power Rangers Cosmic Fury), Tony Chung (Grey’s Anatomy, Hours of Operation), Lori Massini (Rocky Mountain Wreckers, Timber Titans), Matthew Hornburg (My Haunted Hometown, Race Against the Tide), Mark J.W.
