The first season of the acclaimed series, Star Trek: Prodigy, made its televised debut on Netflix on Christmas Day and quickly landed on the top 10 kids’ shows list. According to Screenrant, creators Kevin and Dan Hageman (Trollhunters) hinted at how the ending of the second season of the acclaimed show sets up a possible third season.
The second season is scheduled to premiere this year, and the premise of the story follows the team as they train. According to Screenrant, to celebrate the success of Star Trek: Prodigy, the Hageman Brothers joined the Virtual Trek Con’s Star Trek and Chill podcast, and talked about their hopes to the hosts.
“It wraps up everything you expect from seasons one and two but opens the door for what the third season could be,” Dan said about the upcoming season via Screenrant. “And whether that hits now, or in five years, or whenever the time is right, it’ll feel natural, which I’m really happy about. Kevin followed up with, ”My brother says the worst case scenario is that the show never gets picked up again, we felt though the second season has a captivating ending, it felt complete”.
Star Trek: Prodigy, the animated series that captured the hearts of old and new fans of the franchise, follows a rag-tag team of runaway teens who stumble upon an abandoned ship called the Protostar, and have to work together to navigate the unknown. According to Screenrant, the cast behind the voices consists of Brett Gray (Dramaworld) as Dal, Ella Purnell (Arcane) as Gywm, Kate Mulgrew (Star Trek: Voyager) as Janeway, and many other talented actor/actresses.
According to a previous post from mxdwn, despite being canceled by Paramount+ back in June 2023 and having all episodes removed, Star Trek: Prodigy was safely moved to Netflix.
Whether a third season of Star Trek: Prodigy will materialize remains a mystery, Dan Hageman says they will be ready.
“If we get the call [saying] ‘We want season 3’, because we’re animation, it’s gonna take minimum two years. More likely three,” Dan said via Screenrant. While there is little information surrounding the upcoming season of the series, the audience is sure to mark their calendars, to not miss out on the stellar journey.
