HBO’s The White Lotus, created and directed by Mike White (School of Rock, Pitch Perfect 3), debuted in July 2021. The second season premiered in October 2022, and a third season is on its way. In anticipation of season three, White spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the series and what fans can expect.
Last week, the Chief Executive Officer of HBO and Max, Casey Bloys, revealed that season three of The White Lotus will likely premiere in 2025. This change is made on behalf of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
With the hope that the strike will come to an end soon, White told Entertainment Weekly that he hopes to begin filming “at the beginning of the year.”
White also explained, “I’m seriously finishing scripts. Still waiting to be able to cast. If the SAG strike isn’t resolved soon, then yeah, we’d have to push again because the show has a new cast every season, so there’s lots of parts to cast … I’m more than eager to get going.”
As Entertainment Weekly notes, he teased the third season, stating, “It’s going to be a supersized White Lotus. It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don’t know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that’s a good thing… I’m super excited about the content of the season.”
The White Lotus has received nominations in numerous categories for the upcoming 75th Primetime Emmy Awards premiering January 2024, including nominations for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Casting For A Drama Series.
