After the premiere of the new Carrie TV show on Prime Video, the creator Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass) confirmed an expansion in the show’s world. According to Screenrant, Flanagan explains how Stephen King’s (It, The Shining) 1974 novel Carrie and The Dark Tower are connected to King’s universe.
The Dark Tower is one of King’s stories that takes place in a fantasy Western epic, which almost connects with all his stories. The main character, gunslinger Roland Deschain, goes on a quest in post-apocalyptic to the physical and mystical nexus of all universes called the “Dark Tower.” It is a convergence of all realities placed in the same build-in worlds from King’s stories, but it does not have direct connections with Carrie. The novel was published in 1982 with eight other books published later for the series. Having formerly been adapted into a film in 2017, The Dark Tower might take another step being adapted into a TV adaptation.
Flanagan is set to adapting The Dark Tower series, hoping to go beyond with the original novel. He says in an interview, “The beautiful thing about Stphen King is that the connections between the universe that he’s built are some of the most fun, as lovers of Stephen King, that you get to make those connections. I do think this all exists on a certain level of the Tower, and Carrie’s place in that bigger world is something he hints at very much in the book. It was really exciting for us to be able to do that in practice and to really go into that.”
Dark Tower is referenced in the show with small details that include mentioning of names from the figures in the book and locations similar to have taken place near other book series. The show has finally been released on October 7th, 2026, and the audience finds it as an opportunity for the series to tie up with The Dark Tower universe as it will be a multi-season story.
