HBO announced new comedy in the works, with the talents of Steve Carell, Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses headlining the project. According to a Warner Bros. Discovery media release, HBO has greenlit 10-episodes for the upcoming half-hour show, with the series title still unknown.
Steve Carell (The Office, The 40 Year Old Virgin), Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso, Shrinking) and Matt Tarses (Scrubs, Sports Night) will all executive produce the show. Additionally, Carell will star in the series, while Lawrence and Tarses will write the show’s first episode, as per the official Warner Bros. Discovery media release.
The media release notes that TV Producer Jeff Ingold (Ted Lasso, The Office) and Liza Katzer (Ted Lasso, Shrinking) will also join as executive producers, as part of Doozer Productions. Doozer Productions will produce the comedy in partnership with Warner Bros. Television.
The success of past comedies featuring Carell, Lawrence, Tarses, Ingold and Katzer have higher-ups at HBO and Warners Bros. anticipating the new comedy’s release.
According to the media release, Amy Gravitt, the executive vice president for HBO & Max comedy programming, said “The combination of Steve Carell and Bill Lawrence promises to be full of great laughs, warmth, and charm. We’re thrilled to be the home for this long overdue collaboration.”
Additionally, Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Collectively, they have been at the center of some of the most iconic and successful shows in television history. According to the logline provided by the media release, the show will be “a single-camera comedy set on a college campus, centering on an author’s complicated relationship with his daughter.”
