

Fans of the film Crazy Rich Asians (2018) will soon be able to enjoy all-new stories about the familiar characters on the smaller screen. According to Deadline. film star Henry Golding (Snake Eyes, A Simple Favor) recently shared that production on the TV adaptation will begin soon.
“Something’s being made. I think we’re actually going to do a series. That’s what they’re trying to give us,” Golding told Watch What Happens Live! host Andy Cohen via Deadline. “Aiming for like first quarter, even, next year. There are scripts hanging around, but they haven’t been passed out yet. I have not read anything, but I hear it’s promising.”
According to a previous mxdwn article, the series was first announced back in February by Max. Executive producer and showrunner Adel Lim (Joy Ride, Lethal Weapon) met with film co-writer Peter Chiarell (Most Wanted, Now You See Me 2) and novel writer Kevin Kwan (Heart World, The Emperor of Malibu) to discuss development. Director Jon M. Chu (Wicked, In the Heights) and Kwan will also executive produce the series.
According to Deadline, there have only been chats with the original cast members of the film. However, Golding is ready to return to playing his character, Nick Young. In the film, Golding’s Young is the most eligible bachelor in Singapore, where he comes from a family of wealth. Constance Wu (The Friend, East Bay), who plays the part of Rachel Chu, a New York Professor, falls in love with Young. Nick and Rachel travel to Singapore, where Rachel learns about his family’s fortune and the class disparity between her and her soon-to-be family.
Deadline reports Crazy Rich Asians was released in 2018 and grossed more than $230 million, breaking many box office records across the globe. A sequel, China Rich Girlfriend, was put into development following the success of the first film. However, it was delayed due to scheduling conflicts and Lim’s departure from the film franchise.
