Crazy Ex Girlfriend star and creator Rachel Bloom won her first Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for the CW series. She shared the award with Jack Dolgen and Adam Schlesinger for the song ‘Antidepressants Are So Not A Big Deal’ at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. They won against other nominees from shows such as Documentary Now and Saturday Night Live.
She stopped backstage for an interview following the ceremony. “This is my first Emmy, I’m so happy, it’s really cool,” Bloom said backstage. “I’m so happy to be winning with these guys, with my brothers.”
That is not all she shared; Bloom made a special announcement revealing that she is pregnant. “I’m pregnant, so that’s what’s next for me. Three months pregnant,” she said, joking that she intended to announce the good news on Instagram, but making it at the Emmys was better. “So, I get to tell my child that she was with me when this happened, which is really f—ing cool!”
This will be Bloom’s first child with her husband, comedian and How I Met Your Mother writer Dan Gregor, who she married in 2015 after six years of dating.
Bloom has been nominated for six Emmys through her career, all but one for her show, Crazy Ex Girlfriend, according to Variety. Bloom, Dolgen and Schlesigner wrote over 150 original songs throughout the show’s run.
The CW musical-comedy drama series ended in April after four seasons. Bloom discussed the series finale with Variety saying, “Basically the idea is that part of the music in her mind is her looking inside with all of these perceived narratives so I don’t know how her music sounds. Really there’s another show in, what is her sound? I don’t know what Rebecca’s sound is. She’s not Rachel Bloom – she’s not doing comedy. It’s a beautiful mystery.”
On the carpet before the ceremony Bloom said that being out on her own after the series ended feels great. “It’s a little scary… It’s kind of like I graduated from college,” she expressed. The Golden Globe winner is currently touring her musical stand-up show What Am I Going To Do With My Life? She also went on to say that it will be some time before she and the show’s co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada) consider a Broadway Musical version of the series.
Bloom and her team are nominated for another Emmy for the Original Main Title Theme Music category, which is being presented Sunday.
