Lauren Giraldo, the social-media star who currently has over 5 million followers online is working with Covert Media to produce a Latina docu-series set in Miami, Variety reports.
The series is currently casting in the U.S., and production is set to officially start in the fall. Covert Media, which is developing and producing the docu-series, plans to land and distribute the program on a Cable TV network. As far as the casting process, producers will reach out to Giraldo’s digital fanbase and ask them to submit a one-minute video demonstrating how they and their friends identify with the Miami Latino lifestyle.
In regards to the upcoming doc-series, Giraldo said “I couldn’t think of a better team to work with on a project that hits so close to home.” Saul Goldberg, the head of unscripted television at Covert Media will exec produce alongside Giraldo and Scale Management’s Clayton Santillo. Goldberg stated “In Lauren Giraldo we could not be working with a more authentic partner to dive into this rich, diverse culture that is hungry for real-life programming arising out of itself.”
Giraldo became widely popular because of her comedic videos on Twitter’s Vine where she has 3.3 million followers in addition to her huge fanbase on YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram. The 18-year-old Miami native grew up as a performer in musical theater and is currently recording new music which will be released sometime this year. She’s worked with brands including Clean & Clear, Warner Bros., Smashbox Cosmetics and Coca Cola. Giraldo also was a guest presenter at Univision’s “Premio Lo Nuestro” Latin music awards show.
