Shawna Trpcic, a costume designer who has worked on shows such as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka has died at the age of 56, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Trpcic’s daughter, Sarah, reported that she died in Palm Desert on wednesday to The Hollywood Reporter. The cause is unknown so far.
Trcpic was an award winning costume designer with a deep love of the Star Wars franchise, says The Hollywood Reporter. Trcpic was also a three-time emmy nominee for her costume designs. Dave Filoni, creator of Ahsoka, and Jon favreau, creator of The Mandalorian, both expressed their condolences, stating that Trcpic was beloved by the Star Wars community.
StarWars.Com gave Trcpic a memorial post, stating that “She was considered something of a Star Wars historian by her peers, reading every making-of book she could find to better understand the techniques used in the films during various eras.” and “Our hearts go out to Shawna’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Trcpic was born in 1966 on October 18th. She was born in Artesia, California. Originally wanting to be a truck driver, her dreams were changed by an art teacher during her high school years who encouraged her to pursue design instead.
While most notable for her work on Star Wars, Trcpic was also known for her work on various other projects such as Angel, Carry Tiger To Dollhouse, Mountain, Frankenstein, Frankenstein’s, Firefly, Husbands, K-Ville, Lust for Love, Monster’s Monster, Revival, The Ballad of John St. George, Witches of East End, The Cabin in the Woods, This Is the End, and Torchwood.
Despite her vast experience, Trcpic held a special place for her Star Wars work. Trcpic was a big fan of the series and science fiction as a whole, states The Hollywood Reporter.
Variety also weighed in on the news, stating that Trcpic ammassed over 47 credits to her name throughout her career. They also highlightedher love of Star Wars, citing that she was a “hardcore” fan.
