Contestants of Netflix’s ‘Squid Games: The Challenge’ Threaten Lawsuit For Alleged Nerve Damage & Hypothermia While Filming

According to Deadline, two contestants of Squid Game: The Challenge claim they had suffered injuries while filming the game show in the U.K. and are threatening to file a law suit against Netflix. The unnamed contestants are represented by Express Solicitors, a British personal injuries law firm that specializes in no win no fee claims.

Deadline reported that Express Solicitors said in a press statement that they sent Studio Lambert, the co-producer of the series, letters of the claim. Express Solicitors also stated that their clients had risked their health by spending long periods of time staying motionless while shooting.

“We recognize people may see this as a classic David and Goliath battle with the company and its production partners,” said CEO of Express Solicitors, Daniel Slade, according to Deadline. Slade continued,” Contestants thought they were taking part in something fun and those injured did not expect to suffer as they did. Now they have been left with injuries after spending time being stuck in painful stress positions in cold temperatures.”

The allegations from the players regard the filming of ‘Red Light, Green Light’, the opening game of the series where players have to evade the attention of a robotic doll. This was filmed at a former Royal Air Force base in Bedford, Cardington Studios, during very cold temperatures in Britain.

According to Deadline, it was confirmed at the time by Netflix that three out of the 465 players needed medical attention.

Deadline reported that a spokesperson for Squid Game: The Challenge stated, “No lawsuit has been filed by any of the Squid Game contestants. We take the welfare of our contestants extremely seriously.”

Squid Game: The Challenge had an independent safety inspection due to the injuries during filming. The producers were reminded by Britain’s Health and Safety Executive to adequately plan for the risks on set, but did not take any further action.

The series debuted on Netflix on Thursday, November 22.
